INDIGO GOING TO SEED
We harvested our crop and put the indigo in buckets of water before the first frost of the season. The flowers will eventually mature in water to bare seed for next year.

STORING OUR DRIED INDIGO
I sewed and silkscreen printed bags to store the dried indigo until we compost in the Spring.

My indigo partner, Bobby and I began our harvest at the crack of dawn!

Our indigo is ready to harvest!

The Polygonum Tinctorium's distinguishing ocrea - it's so beautiful!

Indigo Pigment - the first ingredient for the Indigo stock

Me mixing the Indigo stock that will be added to the vat to make our Indigo Brew

Sandra takes a whiff of the stock - it's wicked!

Graham stirring the Indigo stock with our canvas waiting patiently in the wind

10,000 cat eyes watching us - this is referred to as the "flower" of the vat

Graham with our shibori clamps in the Brew

MAKING THE INDIGO VAT
First we made the stock and then we added it to the vat to make our Indigo Brew!

FROST BITE
The night after we transplanted all of our indigo, we had a frost! About half of the plants looked like goners but are now coming back stronger than ever. You can see the regrowth at the bottom of each in the picture above. And check out those blues - just like heaven!! Their resilience is so inspiring to me - it makes me love indigo even more.
